Student Wellbeing Action Team (SWAT)

Student Wellbeing Action Team (SWAT)

Amplifying Student Voice, Student Agency and Student Leadership contributes to improved student health, wellbeing and learning outcomes. It represents different aspects of student empowerment. Each is important, inter-related and mutually reinforcing. Young people who find their own voice in supportive school environments are more likely to develop a confident voice, a capacity to act in the world, and a willingness to lead others. By empowering students, we enhance student engagement and enrich their participation in the classroom, school and community. We help students to ‘own’ their learning and development and create a positive climate for learning.

A class representative from each class in Years 4 – 6 forms our Student Wellbeing Action Team (SWAT). Students can self-nominate and then the teacher will choose their representative based on their demonstration of the School Values.

The team will focus on analysing student wellbeing data and taking action to make a difference at a local level and beyond. Over the year they will share their discoveries with the school community through assemblies, newsletters, School Council and our school website.

SWAT Purpose:

To give students a fair say in the decisions in the school and an opportunity to make changes in the school. Make Mount Waverley a better place for all students. We inform the community of what the SWAT is doing and increase the school spirit by coordinating actions for students and teachers.

  • Provide students with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills
  • Opportunity to liaise with external organisations
  • Make a difference to our school and beyond
