The Mount Waverley Primary School Visual Arts program offers students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them through creative expression.
Students are introduced to art practices from a range of time periods and cultural backgrounds, and consider the ways in which different stylistic choices and materials can convey unique ideas. They experiment with a vast array of fine arts practices and materials and learn the techniques and skills to create art as an expression of their ideas, as well as investigating and discussing the work of others.
Visual arts has long been a conduit for expression of the things we can’t always put words too; but beyond that, it remains one of the most important and valuable tools for developing fine motor skills, critical thinking, problem solving and empathy.
Students are taught to value the creative process rather than simply aiming towards a finite goal, developing resilience and adaptability through exploration and importantly through “making mistakes”.
