Making Great Choices Together Positive Behaviour Chart

The purpose of this behaviour chart is to provide students with consistent, developmentally appropriate expectations and feedback throughout the school day. Research in educational psychology demonstrates that clear behaviour expectations and consistent feedback systems improve student engagement, reduce disruptive behaviour, and support academic achievement. It is designed to be supportive and motivational rather than punitive.

Each day, students will begin on a positive starting point in the green zone. Throughout the day, their behaviour will be monitored and reflected on the chart based on classroom expectations such as following instructions, showing respect to others, staying on task, and using kind and safe behaviour. Positive choices may result in praise, while inappropriate behaviours in the yellow, orange or red zones may result in a Student Reflection Sheet, loss of privileges or a meeting with parents.

If a student experiences ongoing difficulties, the school may contact you directly so that we can work together to support your child. Likewise, consistent positive behaviour will be acknowledged and celebrated.

This approach is consistent with research showing that students are more likely to demonstrate sustained improvements when behaviour systems include positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and opportunities for self-monitoring (Maag, 2018; Sugai & Horner, 2006).

We encourage you to talk with your child about the behaviour chart, celebrate their successes, and reinforce the importance of making positive choices at school. Your continued support and partnership play an important role in helping your child succeed. We believe that this system will strengthen the support we provide to all students and contribute to a positive and productive learning environment.
