To start primary school in 2026, your child will need to turn 5 years old by 30 April 2026. Schooling is compulsory for children who have turned 6 years old.
Your child has a right to enrol at their local school. Your child’s local school is determined on the basis of their permanent residential address. Visit Find my School to locate your child’s local school. The enrolling in a school page can also help you to confirm your child’s address for enrolment.
If you are seeking to apply to enrol your child in a school that is not their local school, you should read about school zones and how they work. You should also read about how applications are prioritised using the Department of Education’s Placement Policy found on the enrolling in a school page.

Keeping up to date information for our records
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your continued support throughout the school year. As we reach the midpoint of Term 2, we kindly ask you to review and update the Parental Occupation Details provided during enrolment.
Accurate information about parent/guardian education and occupation is essential for the school's census reporting, which directly impacts government funding and support programs. In particular, the occupation group should reflect your current employment status in Australia. For example, if you have recently relocated and are currently not working due to family responsibilities, please select the appropriate category such as ‘N’ or ‘H’.
This data allows the school to access additional resources to support students from diverse backgrounds, including those with English as an additional language. Please note that if this information is overstated, it may result in a loss of funding that supports student learning and wellbeing programs.
Your personal information is kept strictly confidential and is only used for Department of Education data collection purposes.
We kindly ask you to complete the attached form and return it to your child(ren)’s classroom teacher by Friday, 6 June.
