Your child has a right to enrol at their local school. Your child’s local school is determined on the basis of their permanent residential address. Visit Find my School to locate your child’s local school. The enrolling in a school page can also help you to confirm your child’s address for enrolment.

Steps to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) for the 2027 school year

All Victorian government primary schools follow the statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child at a Victorian government primary school. 

To start primary school in 2027, your child will need to turn 5 years old by 30 April, 2026. Schooling is compulsory for children who ahve turned 6 years old.

You can apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) in 2027 from Monday 20 April 2026.

1. Use Find my School to locate your designated neighbourhood school (referred to as your local school) and other nearby government schools.
2. Contact our School Office 9807 1480 or email mount.waverley.ps@education.vic.gov.au to book a school tour or to learn more about our school and the enrolment application process.
3. Download the Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack from Foundation-Prep-enrolment-information. This will be available from Monday 20 April 2026. This pack includes guidance on the application progress.
4. Submit your online application for Foundation (Prep) by Friday 31 July 2026 via the following link VicStudents Portal. Paper enrolment application forms are also available on request.
5. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should respond to the offer on VicStudents by Friday 28 August 2026.
6. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2026.
7. Prepare your child to start Foundation (Prep) from Thursday 28 January 2027.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31 July 2026 will be processed by the school as they are received, in accordance with the Department of Education's Placement Policy.

Years 1 - 6 Enrolment 

Please contact the School Office for an enrolment pack between the hours of 8:30am - 4:00pm.  Alternatively, download the enrolment application form Student Enrolment Form and submit with all supporting documentation in person to the School Office or via mount.waverley.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.  Students residing in our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.
