Term 4 Week 1

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term Four!

I hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break, and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends. It has been wonderful to see our students and staff returning with such energy and enthusiasm as we begin what promises to be an exciting and very busy final term of the year.

Term Four is a little longer than other terms, taking us right through to Friday 18 December, and there is certainly plenty happening between now and then. It is a term where we can really capitalise on all the wonderful teaching and learning that has taken place across the year. It is also a time to celebrate the growth, achievements and successes of our students, and to look ahead to the exciting opportunities that await them in 2027.

For our Year Six students, this is a particularly special term. Their final term of primary school is upon us, and they have much to look forward to, including the wonderful Mini Fete that they organise and run, their various end-of-year activities and, of course, their Year 6 Graduation. It has been fantastic to see how well prepared our Year 6 students are for their next step into secondary school. They should be incredibly proud of how far they have come, and we look forward to celebrating this important milestone with them and their families.

It is also an exciting time for our future Foundation students and their families. Our 2027 Foundation Transition Program begins this term, with sessions scheduled for:

  • Wednesday 21 October – Wellbeing, 9:30–10:30am
  • Thursday 5 November – Numeracy, 9:30–10:30am
  • Wednesday 18 November – Literacy, 9:30–10:30am, followed by a Parent Information Evening at 6:00pm
  • Tuesday 8 December – Meet Your 2027 Teacher, 9:30–10:30am

These sessions are a wonderful opportunity for our newest members of the MWPS community to become familiar with our school, meet other children, and begin developing those important connections before starting Foundation in 2027.

For those who have been around the school during the holidays, I am sure you will agree that our grounds are looking fantastic. It is wonderful to finally see the oval open and the temporary fencing removed. The painting of the portable classrooms has made a remarkable difference, and the new landscaping is looking incredible. These changes are really helping our school environment feel fresh, vibrant and ready for another exciting chapter.

I would also like to extend a very warm welcome back to Ms La Forest, who returns to MWPS this term following family leave. It is wonderful to have her back with us and I know the students and staff will be delighted to see her again.

One of the most exciting developments this term is the re-opening of our Library. This has been a tremendous community effort and I want to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution of our parent volunteers who have given so generously of their time, energy and expertise to help bring the Library back to life.

A very special thank you to Ingrid Noblett, Maria, Amber and Mr Rooks, as well as the many other parents and staff who have helped along the way. The work that has gone into sorting, organising, preparing and creating such a welcoming space for our students has been enormous. It is a wonderful example of what can happen when our school community comes together for the benefit of our children.

As we begin this final term, there is a real sense of excitement around the school. There is still plenty of learning to do, but there is also much to celebrate. We will continue to maintain our high expectations, support every student to make the most of their learning and ensure that the final weeks of 2026 are filled with purpose, connection and plenty of opportunities to celebrate.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of our students, our staff and our school.

It is great to have everyone back, and I look forward to a wonderful Term Four together.

Warm regards,

Campbell McKay
Principal
