Dear Families,
Welcome back! We have returned for Term Two with some incredible autumn weather and some beautiful mornings and afternoons. I hope your family were able to enjoy the Easter break and some time together over that period. It is lovely to come back to begin the term. I am proud of the way our students have returned to their classrooms and their learning routines.
Important Dates ~ Term 2 is a busy school term, and we have a lot happening in our classrooms and around the school. Please note the following dates:
5th June (Friday – Curriculum Day – No Students)
8th June (Monday – Kings Birthday Public Holiday – No Students)
ANZAC Day ~ Saturday 25 April 2026 is ANZAC Day. This National Day of Remembrance honours the service and sacrifice of Australians and New Zealanders in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. ANZAC Day as we know it was first observed on 25 April 1916, as people came together to commemorate the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli, Türkiye, on 25 April 1915. This important tradition has now become an opportunity to stop and reflect on the sacrifice and dedication of all our veteran and service community, and the families who support them. Today, Mount Waverley Primary School recognised this important day with a minute of silence across the whole school, recognising this important part of our national history.
Winter is Coming so is Flu Season ~ As we enter the colder months of the year, it is important to remind families that whilst the restrictive days of COVID are over, there are many things we can still do to prevent the transmission of illness be it COVID or flu-like colds and coughs:
1) Stay home if unwell.
2) Ventilate (Air purifiers on in school).
3) Vaccinate.
4) Wash hands thoroughly after going to the toilet.
5) Sneeze into elbow.
6) Sanitise hands upon entering the buildings.
7) Wear masks (as necessary).
Our combined efforts to implement these above-mentioned strategies will go a long way to ensuring the overall health of all students, staff, and parents.
School Uniform ~ Please remember that all students are expected to wear correct School Council approved uniform. By having all our students wear school uniform, it helps us easily identify “visitors” in the school grounds - an important safety consideration. It is also a key element in the development of school identity and morale.
Mother’s & Special Person Day Breaky and Stall ~ Our annual Mother’s Day breaky will be held on Wednesday, 6th May. We invite all mums and special people to attend the breaky which will be held in the gym – more information to come.
Senior School Cross Country ~ Thanks to all involved in making this a fun event for our students. The students tried so hard and we can be proud of this. A special note to Ms Giles and Mr Smith for their organisation.
Please use Pedestrian Crossings on Toirram Road & Park Lane - Can families please use pedestrian crossings on Toirram Road & Park Lane, wherever possible. We really want to keep students safe and for families to model this.
Thanks,
Campbell McKay
