Term 4 Week 7

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Last Month of School for 2025 – Time is flying by, and we now have just twenty days of school left for the 2025 school year. I have asked staff to really maximise this time and capitalise on the relationships and understanding we have of your children.

Grades for 2026 – These have been all but finalised. Thanks for your parental requests. Staff will look at these grades once more before we announce these on the whole school transition days, mentioned below.

Whole School Transition – In early December we will transition students into their new grades over two dates (December 9th & 15th). This will allow students to settle into their new room and have clarity where they will be in 2026 and who their teacher will be. This has worked well in the past, and it allows us to hit the ground running, based on our planning day meetings early December.

Planning Days – In week nine of this term, 2026 staff teams will be looking at the student cohort data and will begin making plans for the teaching and learning for early next year. This early consideration of data and handover of information to the new teaching teams, allows teachers time to really set things up for the new year.

School Council – Although we still have one more meeting this year, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the school council members for their amazing work this year in supporting the governance of our school. For the school councillors this has been nine school council meetings and nine sub-committee meetings - this is a significant voluntary contribution to our school. The current councillors will meet one more time at the beginning of the new school year before elections will be open for vacant positions to be announced early next year.

Kind regards,

Campbell McKay
Principal

Transition Sessions:
Preparing Our Students
for a Successful Start in 2026

At Mount Waverley Primary School, we know that a successful school year begins well before Day 1.

Transition is not a single event — it is a carefully planned process that starts in December and continues into Term 1, helping students feel confident, connected, and ready to learn.

Our Transition Program is designed to ensure every student feels known, valued, and supported as they prepare for the year ahead. These sessions create early relationships, strengthen belonging, and build the foundation for positive learning partnerships between students, teachers, and families.

What is the purpose of our Transition Program?

Our structured transition sessions help students:

  • Feel safe, settled, and connected to their new classroom environment

  • Build early relationships with their 2026 teacher and classmates

  • Strengthen excitement and curiosity about learning in the new year

  • Connect with our school values and shared behaviours

  • Understand expectations and routines that support a positive learning culture

When students understand who they are learning with, how they will learn, and what is expected, they begin the year with confidence and clarity — essential for their wellbeing and success.

What happens during the December transition sessions?

Across two sessions (Foundation students participate in one meet the teacher transition), students will be introduced to:

  • Their new teacher and classmates

  • A sense of team and class identity

  • Our school values in action

  • Engaging, fun community-building activities

Each year level tailors the transition experience to the developmental needs of their cohort. Activities may include:

  • Circle discussions and get-to-know-you games

  • Student profiles and personal goal-setting

  • Class puzzles or collaborative art projects

  • Classroom design and shared agreements

  • Introductions to key experiences for the year, such as camp or leadership programs

Why this matters

These sessions mean that when students arrive in 2026, they are not stepping into the unknown. Instead, they are returning to a space where:

✔ they already know their teacher
✔ they recognise their peers
✔ they understand the expectations
✔ they feel a sense of belonging and readiness

This greatly reduces anxiety, boosts confidence, and sets students up for a calm and positive start to Term 1.

At MWPS, we are committed to creating smooth, supportive transitions that help students flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you for partnering with us as we prepare our learners for a strong, successful year ahead.

Warm regards,

Moustache

 Mission

Mutual support

This year, our Physical Education teacher, Mr Smith, is proudly taking part in Movember to raise awareness for men’s health, including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. You may have already spotted his moustache getting stronger (and definitely more questionable) as the month goes on!

To crank up the fun factor...for a great cause, Mr Smith has promised to complete one push-up for every dollar donated. So not only will his moustache be working hard—his arms will be too! The students are eagerly watching the total climb, secretly hoping he ends the month barely able to lift his coffee mug.

If you’d like to support him and this great cause, you can donate via the link below:
