Term 3 Week 1

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday break, filled with time to recharge and connect with friends and family. It’s been wonderful to see our students return with energy and enthusiasm for the term ahead.

Home & School Learning ~ Term Three is always an exciting time for deepening the partnership between home and school. With mid-year reports now shared, and parent-teacher interviews completed, we have a strong foundation to work together in supporting each child's learning. These conversations help us set shared goals and ensure that your child continues to grow with confidence and purpose.

NAPLAN Results ~ I am again thrilled to see our outstanding achievement. Of note is our consistently high student achievement, across the key learning areas of ‘Reading’, ‘Writing’ and ‘Mathematics’. We have reached lofty heights of achievement, some of the best in Victoria, and we have stayed there. A super effort by our students, staff, and supportive community.

Pupil Free Day (no school) Friday August 8th 2025 ~ Staff will be working on ‘Conferencing’. This is a very important part of our Best Lesson (our MWPS instructional model) and aligns with our work towards ‘student led learning’ that Mrs Deepak Kumar has been leading. Conferencing is where we work one-on-one with students, to gauge their progress, looking at the evidence of your child’s work together, and then setting new learning goals with them.

Senior Athletics ~ Thanks so much to Mr James Smith and others for setting up the athletics day. It was great to see the students trying so hard, and being resilient, in the trying conditions. Unfortunately, we had to bring students home due to the deteriorating conditions, for their safety. We have some plans afoot to run the remainder of events. Thanks also to the tremendous parental support on the day.

Stay Warm ~ As the days begin to stretch a little longer, we're reminded that spring is on its way—but the mornings and afternoons remain crisp, so please make sure students stay warm and rugged up!

We look forward to a productive and connected term ahead.

Warm regards,

Campbell McKay

Wellbeing @ MWPS

As We Head Into the Second Half of the Year...
Let’s Refocus on Wellbeing

As we enter the second half of the school year, it’s a natural time for students (and adults!) to reflect, reset, and refocus. The winter months can bring lower energy, more illness, and moments of emotional fatigue—but they can also be an opportunity to strengthen routines, re-establish goals, and nurture wellbeing in meaningful ways.

At Mount Waverley Primary School, we understand that a student’s wellbeing underpins their ability to learn, connect, and thrive. This term, we are continuing to prioritise social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and self-regulation across all year levels. Whether it’s through
The Resilience Project lessons, SPARK hour, wellbeing check-ins, or structured reflection time, we are helping students build lifelong skills to manage emotions, navigate relationships, and bounce back from setbacks.

A Gentle Reminder: Learning is a Marathon, Not a Sprint

By this time in the year, many students are working hard toward personal goals and grappling with challenges—socially, emotionally, or academically. This is completely normal. Growth takes time, and our role as educators and families is to provide consistent support, hold high expectations, and guide students in building the resilience and independence they need to move forward.

Let’s Keep the Partnership Strong

If you’ve noticed changes in your child’s mood, motivation, friendships or engagement, please reach out. Our Student Support Team meets weekly to support the holistic needs of our students. We work in partnership with classroom teachers and families to put practical strategies in place that nurture both wellbeing and learning.

Together, let’s make the second half of the year one of reflection, resilience, and renewed energy.

Celebrating Student Achievements

My name is Ayush and over the holidays I designed a 3D-printed Lamborghini pencil holder by using software online.

I first tried to put a drawer on the side of the car for stationery, but the drawer wouldn’t move, and the measurements came out incorrectly.

I failed my second attempt because the car wasn’t watertight. Watertight means there are no holes. I added holes to put pencils in the car; I also opened the bonnet where the engine is to put stationery inside. I cut the bottom of each wheel, so the car stands evenly.

I used a software called Tinkercad. My total budget was $70, and I used $64. This whole project took me a week of the school holidays to complete.

I felt proud and happy because all my hard work paid off.
