In 2006 the school had 27 classroom and eight specialist teachers (Physical Education, Japanese, Art, Library, Music, ICT, Reading Recovery and ESL).Class sizes across the school averaged 24 children, whilst Prep-2 class sizes remained below 22, within Department guidelines.

The school offers programs in many areas, including: Early Years and Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy, Enrichment (Tournament of Minds, Solar Boat, G.A.T.E.W.A.Y.S., Engquest), Learning Technologies, Band, Choir, Inter/Intra School Sport, Swimming, Camps, Year 6 Production, Prep and Year 6 Transition Programs, Before and After School Programs.

Mount Waverley P.S. continues to work with Mount Waverley North P.S., Sussex Heights P.S., Essex Heights P.S. and Mount Waverley Secondary College as part of the Mount Waverley Innovation and Excellence Cluster. The focus remains on a Thinking Orientated Curriculum to improve educational outcomes for all students, enhancing student engagement through building awareness of thinking skills and learning strategies.

Curriculum as its major Learning and Teaching Charter Priority for 2005 – 2007.

The school continues to develop its Information Technology facilities, improving the acquisition of ICT skills and competencies for both students and teachers. Resources have been upgraded with a computer laboratory providing access to weekly sessions for classes from P – 6. 

Mount Waverley P.S. values student and staff wellbeing and continually seeks to improve support programs for students, their families and staff. The ‘You Can Do It’ program complements the school’s Assertive Discipline and Values Programs.  A Student Wellbeing Committee regularly reviews programs, protocols and procedures for dealing with student issues and ensures effective dissemination of information to families. Staff, students and their families can also access support from a Guidance Officer, Speech Therapist, Teacher for the Hearing Impaired and a school nurse.
