Welcome to our Library! The Library supports and enriches the educational programs of the school and its community by providing a relevant, dynamic and responsive collection of information resources and a teaching program to develop attitudes, skills and competencies necessary for lifelong effective use of those information resources in both work and leisure. The collection of some 20000 items include picture books, novels, non-fiction books, reference books, audio books, charts and posters and an extensive teacher reference section, including DVD and video. There is also a small collection of books for parents and 10 computers for student use. The Library is open 8.30- 9.00 daily and three lunchtimes a week and students are encouraged to drop in and borrow at need, providing plenty of opportunity for recreational reading. Each Grade has a 45 minute Library lesson each week, during which students are introduced to good literature and encouraged to become keen readers. They also learn to think about the stories they read in various ways, for example, looking at the plot, thinking about the characters and looking out for ways authors and illustrators influence the way we regard certain characters, places or issues. The children also learn to use the catalogue to find resources, and how to approach the task of getting the information they need from book and electronic resources, (research skills). Parents are welcome to visit the library with their children before school and help them to choose books to be read together at home and parent help is very welcome.

Many authors and illustrators have visited our students as part of the Library program over the last five years; Morris Gleitzman, Phil Kettle, Michael Wagner, Rachel Flynn, Sophie Laguna, Anna Ciddor, Kym Lardner, Sally Rippin, Kirsty Murray , have entertained and inspired young readers.
