The ability to use a language other than English helps students to develop communication skills and understanding of the culture of the speakers of the language they are studying. Language learning contributes to the development of an awareness of ourselves as members of a culturally diverse
All students will have the opportunity to be involved in a weekly LOTE session in Japanese based on the Victorian Essential Learning standards. The program will be organised into the two dimensions of communication and cultural knowledge. Communication will involve students in learning the knowledge, skills and behaviours through speaking, listening, reading and writing. Intercultural knowledge and language awareness will develop students’ knowledge of the connections between language and culture.
Students learn aspects about Japanese culture and language through the means of:
- Reading and writing Japanese script, Hiragana and Kanji
- Basic greetings and gestures
- Making a variety of Japanese crafts
- Role playing.
